AWA Southern Tee (Asphalt, Blk Heather, Red, Royal Heather & Gold (Small—XXXXL)
$24.00 - $27.00
Frustrated with the NWA board and his inability to book the NWA World champion for his Monday shows at the Mid-South Coliseum, promoter Jerry Jarrett changed the area's singles and tag Southern titles to AWA affiliation as part of a working relationship with Verne Gagne in 1978. Jarrett was also hopeful he could convince one man—Verne—rather than an entire board of increasingly backstabbing promoters to eventually put the World champion on his local King, Jerry Lawler.
Although it came about 6 years too late, the Jarrett's gamble eventually paid off in the the AWA's dying days, with Lawler finally ascending to the AWA's throne.
While most fans in St. Paul, Chicago, etc., knew little of the "AWA" Southern titles, to the folks in Memphis, Nick Bockwinkel was THE World champion as part of a class organization. From '78 to '88, the AWA was revered in the territory, with Bockwinkel making several appearances in the area, along with the likes of Ken Patera, Jesse Ventura and Crusher Blackwell.
Wear your love of this once-great organization on your chest as part of the new AWA Southern Tee Collection. Please mention your preferred color: Black Heather, Asphalt, Red, Royal Blue Heather or Gold when selecting your size.
